General Indexes

Academic Search Complete (Ebsco) is a multidisciplinary index giving access to articles in over 8000 journals with many available in full text.

Expanded Academic ASAP (Gale Cengage Learning) is a general database with indexing for journal, magazine and newspaper articles, with many of the articles available full text.

Wilson Select Plus (FirstSearch) is a general database that contains full text articles from popular and scholarly journals and magazines.

 

Subject Indexes

 

AAPG/Datapages Combined Publications database contains over 60,000 articles from sources including AAPG Publications, SEPM Journal, GCAGS Transactions, and Journal of Petroleum Geology.

ABI-INFORM (OCLC FirstSearch) provides citations and abstracts for articles on business and management.

American Chemical Society Web Editions (ACS Web Edition and Archive) provides online full-text access to all the ACS journal and magazine publications (presently, about 36), with coverage from volume 1 to current for each.

DIScovering Science provides comprehensive coverage of scientific disciplines including Physical Sciences, Medicine, Technology, Information Sciences and Mathematics.

Geobase (Firstsearch) a worldwide index to literature on geography, geology, ecology, and related disciplines, includes journal articles, books, monographs, conference proceedings, and reports.

GeoRef (Ebsco) includes citations to nearly 2 million international records about geology and earth sciences.

Geological Society of America Special Papers (PDF)

Science & Technology Collection (Ebsco) provides indexing and abstracts for more than 1,700 publications of which over 800 leading full text journals cover relevant aspects of the scientific and technical community. Topics include astrophysics, biology, chemistry, computer technology, geology, physics, archaeology, and materials science.

Scirus: for scientific information only searches more than 150 million science-related Web sites, along with 11 journal databases with full text articles often included.

EARTHQUAKES

Earthquake Information for the World
A virtual library on earthquakes from the USGS National Earthquake Information Center. This site provides daily Near Real Time Earthquake Lists as well as historical reports of earthquakes of the past and biographical information about prominent seismologists of the past and present.

FIELD TRIP GUIDEBOOKS

Geologic Guidebooks of North America Database
This is the electronic version of the print edition of this publication. It is searchable by geologic feature, formation or other subject term. It also provides lists of libraries that own the relevant guidebooks found.

MAPS

National Geologic Map Database
A catalog of paper and digital geologic maps and where to find them, including paleontological, geophysical, structural, environmental, hazard, and resource maps. It also provides links to other sites for topographic maps. It also provides a Geologic Name file that gives basic descriptions of geologic rock units.

TopoZone - Topographic map site
This site has all the topographic maps for the U.S. contiguous states in the scales 1:100,000; 1:25,000; and 1:24,000. Topographics for Alaska (1:63,360) and Puerto Rico (1:20,000) will be added soon. The images of the maps themselves are retrieved after searching by place name and state or latitude/longitude.

Mineral Gallery
A searchable and browseable collection of mineral descriptions and images. Searchable by name, group or full-text keyword; this is a commercial site that sells minerals, but it provides substantial and useful technical descriptions.

Mineralogy Database
An exhaustive mineral database providing descriptions of more than 4000 mineral species with more than 5000 pages of data and links to other sources of mineral data on the web.

USGS Minerals Information
Statistics and information on world supply, demand and flow of minerals and materials essential to the U.S. economy.
