Bried Description of Sabine County
Sabine County, situated on the Sabine River, is bounded by Shelby County on the north, Newton County on the south, and San Augustine County on the west. Originally it functioned as a passageway for settlers on their way west. There were early French and Spanish explorers to the area, but the politics of the area delayed settlement.

1797: First Anglo activity with construction of ferries.
1823/24: Sabine District organized from Department of Nacogdoches
1835: Sabine organized into municipality
1837: Organized into Sabine County
1858: County seat transfered from Milam to Hemphill
