Brief Discription of Rusk County
- Rusk County is on the divide between the Sabine and Angelina rivers in
the piney woods of East Texas. Originally, it was part of the Nacogdoches
area.
- Indians removed by Battle of the Neches: 1839
- First Anglo settlers in eastern part: 1822
- Beginning of extended settlement: 1839
- Rusk County was separated from Nacogdoches County in 1843 with Henderson
as the county seat.
