The mission of the Ralph W. Steen Library is to offer an array of informational, educational and research support services intended to further the University’s mission of excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, creative work, and service.

In this age of information overload, it is more important than ever that the university library assert its value and celebrate its role as experts in the field of information. In my opinion, the old adage proclaiming the academic library as being “the heart of the university” never rang truer.
In this pursuit, the Steen Library has expanded two key support services that will allow students greater access to the help they need.
The Academic Assistance Resource Center (AARC) is now offering on-line tutoring for writing, which is uniquely designed to serve SFA students. The Online Writing Lab (OWL) is populated with visually-based learning modules which cover a range of topics in the writing process. OWL access is facilitated either by online peer tutors in real time or students can access the writing resources on their own.
The Ask-A-Librarian Research Room is a welcoming, user-centric area located on the first floor of the library adjacent to the Circulation Desk. The room is purposely named Ask-A- Librarian to remind students that they have access to the library’s most esteemed resource, the librarian. Research librarians are available to give students individualized research help. The area is comfortably furnished with seating and tables for studying or simply browsing the current journals and new books which are located in the area.
Steen Library invites you to survey the wealth of resources available to you. You will certainly be pleased with your discovery.
